Frankaborough Farm is a real, working dairy, beef and arable farm set in 375 acres of rustic Devon countryside in Lifton. We open the gate for schools and children’s groups who want to get hands-on with where food actually comes from.

Why Frankaborough?

Most children have never stood in a field, held a fresh egg, or watched a calf being fed. We think that’s something worth changing.

We sit right on the edge of Dartmoor, with open farmland as your outdoor classroom and rewilding land next door at Coombeshead (rewildingcoombeshead.co.uk) giving groups a rare side-by-side view of both active farming and nature recovery in action.

We are a family farm, run by Derek and Linda. You won’t get a scripted tour. You’ll get the real thing.

What to Expect

We keep visits straightforward and hands-on. We work with you beforehand to shape the day around your group’s needs and learning objectives. Here’s what a visit can include:

Cows & Calves Follow the journey of our dairy and beef cattle on the farm. Where they live, what they eat, and how they grow. A brilliant anchor for KS1 and KS2 food and farming topics.

In the Fields Take a junior spotter’s guide out across the farmland and see what you can find. Great for nature, science and geography links.

Chickens with Lucy Our resident chicken expert. Let the group meet the flock, handle the eggs and connect the dots between farm and breakfast table.

Art on the Farm We can host tutor-led artistic sessions using the farm itself as subject matter. Ideal for children’s groups, community organisations or creative educators looking for an inspiring outdoor setting.

Close to Rewilding Land

Next door to Frankaborough is Rewilding Coombeshead, one of the South West’s most exciting rewilding projects. Combining a farm visit with time spent learning about what happens when nature is given space to recover makes for a genuinely rare and memorable day. We are happy to help you connect the two.

Good to Know

We are a working farm, not a visitor attraction. Visits are relaxed, informal and tailored. We are not yet a full commercial education provider, so numbers are kept small and dates limited. That means your group gets proper time with Derek and Linda, not a conveyor belt.

Wellies are a must. Smiles are compulsory.
